Fishing Adventure Info – Fall 2025

Saturday, October 4, 2025 10:00am-12:00pm

Harold Parker State Forest, Field Pond boat launch/dock

This is an optional event for Cub Scouts and their families. At least one adult is expected to attend for each child, except in the case of siblings, for which a single adult may supervise all their children.

Troop Scouts (grades 6-12) do not need an adult to attend with them.

We are seeking adults who have experience fishing that are willing to give some guidance to children who are new to the sport.

The Pack owns 4 or 5 fishing rods which we will bring to share, but we ask that anyone who has their own, and possibly extras, to bring them as well.

The Pack will supply bait.

There is no additional cost for this adventure.

Meeting Location:

The meeting spot is at the boat launch/dock, a little past the GPS address of 29-33 Harold Parker Road, Andover, MA. Click on the below image to see the address in Google Maps.

Parking:

There are a number of parking spots on the side of the road and in a a couple of small, off-street parking lots.

Hook Safety

To reduce the risk of seriously injured from a hook, Cub Scouts and Scouts will all be required to:

  1. wear safety glasses or sunglasses to protect our eyes, and
  2. either use barbless hooks or de-barb your hooks with pliers. Doing so can prevent a trip to the Emergency Room.

Freshwater Fishing Licenses:

According to the Mass.gov website, children 14 years and younger are allowed to fish without a license, teens 15 to 17 years old must obtain a license but there is no cost, and persons 18 and over must obtain a license. A 3-day license costs $17.50 plus $5 for a Wildlands Conservation Stamp. See the below link for more information.

The Pack’s understanding is that adults who are simply accompanying a minor do not need to have a fishing license provided they are not seen fishing or even holding a fishing rod by a Dept of Environmental Police Officer.

It is up to each person to decide whether they want to get a license or not; if fines are given, paying them will be the responsibility of the recipient not the Pack.

We encouraged the Cub Scouts to wear uniforms to help identify us as a Pack.
